Bro Joseph Wasy passed away on May 31, 2008 at the age of 91 in Cupertino, California
after serving the Society of Mary for 71 years.
Our lord in heaven has finally granted Bro Wasy to go to His side and meet Our
Blessed Virgin Mary, which I am sure was his final goal when Bro Wasy joined the
Society of Mary. It certainly was our blessing to have him in Japan during his
great and vitally active days. He made me feel that it must be a wonderful thing
to be able to join the Society of Mary and see the world and contribute positively
to God's Providence.
These are my sincere thoughts about our Dear Brother Wasy. I remember him as our
Freshman year homeroom teacher. I was just an adolescent and he treated me with
kindness that I sometimes mistook as simple mindedness. I know he has given us
many intellectually stimulating conversations, but I can only remember his great
laughter when we were talking and his silent but all understanding smile. Time
passes so quickly and all the times of joy, prayers and tribulation we had with
Bro Wasy is now set in our memory.
I am sure many of you have your own thoughts and memory of him. Let us all who
cannot be at his funeral offer our prayer of thanks that we knew and could have
touched his wonderful being when he was alive. As he would say, let us try to
be as kind as possible to the persons we meet daily in our lives, I remain
yours in prayer
