The General Meeting of the SJIS Alumni Association was held on March 1, 2003 at theYC&AC. The chairperson, President Tsunehiro H. Akashi, called the meeting to order at 17:30.

The following alumni members were present at the meeting.

OPENING ADDRESS:
President Akashi opened the meeting by welcoming all the attendees and acknowledged that it had been an honor to serve as President of the Association for the past year and thanked the Officers and Co-ops of the Committee and fellow Alumni for their support and cooperation.

1. Approval of the Minutes of AGM 2002
Secretary N.Suzuki reported the minutes of the last AGM held on February 22,2002
which was approved by the attendees.
2. Report of Activities
The Secretary reported on the activities of the past year.
 
Feb. 22, 2002: AGM at the YC&AC
Aug. 15, 2002: • Dedication Ceremony of the Mary Statue (Assumption Day)
• Tour and gathering at Berrick Hall
Nov. 2, 2002: Dinner Dance at the YC&AC

The Secretary also reported on the completion of the Panel Displays of the Alma Mater, including photos of the faculties and snaps of the boarding students at Berrick Hall, which is now owned by the city and opened to the public as a museum.

3. Financial Report
The financial report of fiscal year 2002 was made by Treasurer William Mahr and was approved by the attendees.
Some of the items being explained following the report were:
Remittances in four installments of US$2000 to Bro. Zabala’s ministry in Guatemala.
The B/S of the Annual Dinner Dance held on November 2, 2002, with donations to the Bro. Zabala’s ministry and the Mary statue project amounting to ¥38,000 and ¥157,000 respectively.
4. Other Items
Continued support for the IBS
  Edward Bracha, the Scoutmaster of IBS Troop 1, reported that the updated version of the IBS Handbook will be completed in pforint shortly and thanked for the ¥500,000 subsidy from the Alumni Association. The Alumni Association pledged continued financial support when requested by the IBS.
Continued support for Bro. Zabala’s Ministry
  President Akashi reported on the latest missionary activities by Bro. Zabala in Guatemala. The Alumni Association agreed on the continuation of financial support for his ministry which is currently planning to build a new chapel in coalition with other missionaries working in the same area. A total sum of US$ 2500 was allocated to this project for this fiscal year.
SJIS History Project
The “SJC History Archive” Project, proposed initially by Tom Haar ‘60 and recently been endorsed by the SJIS Alumni Association – USA Chapter, was submitted for discussion. Although the majority of the attendees agreed in principle to endorse the commencement of this project, discussion was focused as to the extent in our commitment in the fundraising goal and the format in putting together our history in CD-ROM. It was agreed that the Association will pledge the amount matching the raised sum of the USA Chapter. The Association will form a fundraising committee initially led by Chairman Boon Oyama ’66.
5. Resignation of Officers
All of the Officers tendered in their resignation from their respective posts
6. Nomination of New Officers.s
Nobuharu foSuzuki ’67 was nominated for President.
7. Election of New Officers
Nobuharu Suzuki was elected as the new President with Vice-President Eugene Mikami, Secretary Yutaka Nakayama and Treasurer William Mahr. Cecil Baclay, George Koyama agreed to support the new officers as co-ops, along with Ryoichi Takarada, Boon Oyama and Francis De Britto.


The new President, Nobuharu Suzuki, expressed sincere thanks to former President Dr. Henry Akashi, former Vice-President Cecil Baclay and Dinner-Dance Committee Chairman George Koyama, in the closing address. The General Meeting of 2003 was adjourned at 9:00 P.M.
